Lilly Employees Volunteer at Two Mobile Food Pantry Stops

One day each year, Lilly employees from around the world volunteer their time and give back to their communities. They call this the Lilly Global Day of Service.

This year’s Global Day of Service fell on September 25, when Lilly volunteers visited the Grace Care Center Mobile Food Pantry to support two stops in the Indianapolis area.

There are several local resource-limited communities where DIP-IN is actively working to lower astronomical rates of diabetes, with support from Lilly. The project, Diabetes Impact Project - Indianapolis Neighborhoods (DIP-IN), is designed to invest in local communities to lower diabetes rates. One way this can be done is by consuming nutritious food – but not everyone has access to groceries, much less healthier choices.

By supporting our Mobile Food Pantry, Lilly volunteers brought fresh food and produce directly to individuals and families in need in these areas.

Lilly employees and Grace Care Center volunteers came together to distribute the groceries, helping with shopping as well as keeping the shelves stocked. Anyone who stopped by was welcome to access the mobile pantry and select the items that best fit their needs.

We estimated that we provided $5,300 of dollars in goods on that day, thanks to Lilly volunteers and our incredible supporters!

Several people expressed their gratitude to both Lilly and Grace Care Center. Others told us that they weren’t sure how they were going to put food on the table until they saw the Mobile Food Pantry.

Randy, a single father, shared, “Food is really tight for our family right now. I didn’t know what meals were going to look like over the next couple of days.”

He even brought his sister, Cassie, back later in the day. She said, “This takes a lot of stress off my plate, knowing that we have meals ahead of us this week.”

Thank you, Lilly volunteers, for working alongside the Grace Care Center to bring food and hope to Indianapolis families.
