SNAP Benefits are Set to Run Out Nov. 1 – Here’s How You Can Help

Family selecting healthy groceries at Grace Care Center’s Choice Food Pantry in Central Indiana, helping families stretch their budgets when SNAP benefits fall short.

42 million Americans – including an estimated 600,000 Hoosiers – depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help them put food on the table each month. If the current government shutdown continues, these families and individuals will not receive their SNAP benefits on November 1.

Although some families may be able to roll over benefits from previous months, many will be left with limited access to groceries if the SNAP program is suspended. Food banks and pantries, like Grace Care Center’s Choice Food Pantry, are stepping up to fill the gaps. And you can, too!

With the help of our supporters, Grace Care Center’s Choice Food Pantry serves hundreds of Central Indiana individuals and families each week, many of whom also receive SNAP benefits. Our choice-based system resembles a grocery store, and every Care Center Friend is provided with a set of points they can use to select items that fit their needs and lifestyle.

Because times are tough right now, Grace Care Center extended an additional five points per week to every individual or family who visits the Choice Food Pantry.

Our aim is to help those impacted by the suspension of SNAP access critical groceries and household items until the benefits can be reinstated. These five points equal healthy meals, fresh produce, and nutritious snacks that these families would otherwise go without.

If you’d like to help your Central Indiana neighbors experiencing food insecurity during this difficult time, please make a gift here or by calling 317-827-4518.

Providing an additional five points to everyone who walks through our doors will equal approximately $10,000 in groceries each week. And that’s on top of the increased number of goods we are already distributing due to the elevated need we typically see this time of year.

Your support will help us keep the shelves stocked with a wide range of healthy and nutritious choices. Thank you!
